VICTORY AT MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONDUCTED BY CJM, DELHI

Model United Nations, also called MUN is a fast-growing competitive activity for many students. MUN h as helped students all over the world in a number of ways. It has helped them become confident in themselves, put forward their opinions and form lasting friendships with people. MUN introduces the students to an amazing world of various world committees.

Twelve selected students from CJM Waverley got a chance to participate in a two-day event of an MUN organised by Convent of Jesus and Mary, Delhi on 29th and 30th of August, 2021. It was held online over the Zoom platform and yet was the most tremendous experience for the students. It was a test of their skills in debate and public presentation. For almost all of them, it was their first proper MUN conference that they were attending. It got them nervous. They found it difficult to understand the procedures and the decorum of the conference, at once. It took them time to analyse and understand the process. All the students had 20 days to prepare for the agendas of their respective committees, 4 girls were in the United Nations Committee for Women, 2 in Emergency Meeting of the Parliament and 4 girls in the United Nations Human Rights Committee. After knowing the procedure, they realised that it took a lot of research and detailed study of the agendas to perform well in the MUN. It helped the students to write excellent speeches and they learned how to respond to the parliamentary process along with United Nations structure.

The girls performed very well on both days. The research and study of the agenda was clearly reflecting in their speeches. The way all of them were defending their ideas was beyond amazing. The skills they learned through the MUN experience - such as research, self-confidence, public speaking, and adapting their ideas to changing information when they did not have a lot of time - are all incredibly valuable to any future career. MUN was a very demanding and tiring process but the hard work that they had poured into it actually came out fruitful. CJM Waverley made it to the merit list.

Qousain Latief won the Best Delegate in the Committee on Human Rights.

Mannat Brar (UNW) and Naina Singh (EMP) were recognised in the category of "verbal mention.

All the ten girls performed their best. This MUN enhanced their power to think and comprehend.
